Tzeadim › By age
2–3 years
Gross motor
- Jumps with both feet off the ground
Both feet leave the floor at the same time.
Fine motor
- Stacks 8+ blocks / strings beads
Fine control: tall towers, big beads on a string, turning single pages.
- Copies a circle
Draws a roughly closed circle when shown.
Language
- 50 words and two-word combinations
Around 24 months: ~50 words and joins two ('more milk', 'daddy go'). Under 50 words at 24 months = 'late talker' → evaluation.
- Pacifier: sleep only (daytime stop)
From 12 months limit to sleep; a mouth with a pacifier practises fewer words.
- Follows a two-step instruction
'Take the cup and put it on the table' — without gestures.
- Says own first name
Answers 'what's your name?'; uses 'I/me/you' mostly right by 3.
- Speech understood by strangers most of the time
By 3, people outside the family understand at least 3 of 4 words; conversation has 2+ back-and-forth turns.
Social & emotional
- Plays alongside other children
Parallel play: same sandbox, own game; watching and copying.
- Plays with other children
Joins in, takes turns sometimes, notices other children and moves toward them.
Thinking
- Sorts by shape or colour
Puts the round block in the round hole, or groups objects that go together.
Self care
- Takes off some clothes
Pulls off socks, shoes, an open jacket.
- Takes a turn at brushing
Holds the brush and has a go, then an adult brushes properly afterwards.
- Daytime toilet trained
Most Israeli children train between 2 and 3; readiness matters more than age. Night dryness comes much later.
- Washes hands with help
Holds hands under water, rubs with soap and dries — with an adult finishing the job.
- Uses a fork
Stabs soft food and brings it to the mouth.
- Puts on some clothes
Pulls on loose pants or a jacket; shirts and shoes on the right feet come later.
Feeding
- High-chair tray → booster at the family table
Sitting at the table with everyone builds language and eating habits; move when the child sits steadily.
Sleep
- Screens off before sleep
Israel's MoH says 2 screen-free hours before a child's sleep; AAP says at least one — for everyone. Wind down with something slower.
Health
- Tipat Halav: 24 months (doctor's exam)
Hep A 2; exam; 50 words + 2-word phrases, running, stacking, spoon, pretend play; M-CHAT-R repeat; last routine visit before age 4!
- M-CHAT-R repeat (24 months)
Second screen at the 24-month visit.
- Hepatitis A — dose 2 (last)
At 24 months per the MoH table (June 2026). For children born from 2025 a move to 1st grade was reported — confirm at Tipat Halav.
- 30-month self-checklist (no Tipat Halav visit)
Israel has no routine visit between 2 and 4 — run through the 30-month milestones here and see the pediatrician if anything worries you.
- Floss (or interdental brushes) daily
Start when any two teeth touch — a parent does it until about 8–10; gum disease later links to heart disease and diabetes.
Play & learning
- Family media plan (2–18)
Quality and context over minutes: no screens at meals or in bedrooms at night, homework first, shared devices, co-viewing; revisit yearly.
For the parent
- Special time: 10 minutes, their rules
5–15 minutes a day per child, child-led: no questions, no commands, no teaching, phones away. The core of proven parent programs.
