Smiles back at you in response to your face or voice (not only in sleep).

Settles, at least briefly, when held, rocked or spoken to gently.

- Follows an object past the midline
Watches a face or toy and follows it with the eyes from one side to the other.
Sleep
- A bedtime routine, the same every night
The same 20–30 minute sequence (bath, story, song, dim lights) — more routine nights mean easier bedtimes and fewer wakings.
- Put down drowsy but awake — sometimes
Some sleeps, let falling asleep start in the crib rather than in your arms. A gentle practice, not a rule; no need for tears.
- Daylight within an hour of waking
A few minutes outside (or by a bright window) soon after waking anchors the body clock — for babies, teens and adults alike.
- Start a bedtime ritual
A short, same-every-night sequence (bath, feed, song, dim light) that signals sleep.
- Stop swaddling
Stop at the first sign of rolling — usually 8–12 weeks; move to a sleep sack with free arms.
Health

- Hepatitis B — dose 2
At the 1-month Tipat Halav visit.
- Tipat Halav: 6 weeks (first big vaccine visit)
Pentavalent 1, rotavirus 1 (oral), PCV 1; growth; social smile and head control check; postpartum mood screen.
- Pentavalent (DTaP-IPV-Hib) — dose 1
Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, Hib in one shot. Moved from 2 months to 6 weeks (2025–26) because of whooping-cough outbreaks.
- Rotavirus — dose 1 (oral)
Oral drops; the first dose must be given before 15 weeks of age, so don't postpone this visit.
- Pneumococcal (PCV) — dose 1
Protects against pneumococcal pneumonia, meningitis and ear infections.
- Head turning to both sides
A strong preference for looking to one side is common and responds very well to early positioning and physiotherapy.
For the parent
- Insurance and paperwork after a birth
Add the child to health/supplementary insurance; check life & disability cover, child allowance and the 'chisachon lekol yeled' account.
- Postpartum check for the birthing parent (6 weeks)
Physical recovery, contraception, and a mood check (postpartum depression screening) at the gynecologist/kupah.
